Mohan Kanda recalls his services to State

Hailing P.V.R.K Prasad who passed away recently in Hyderabad as one of the most outstanding IAS officers from Andhra Pradesh, several speakers here on Wednesday recalled his services to the State and the nation.

Former Chief Secretary Mohan Kanda said PVRK had left such a lasting impact on all that he touched that “it would be no exaggeration to divide government departments into two categories – those in which PVRK worked and those in which he did not. Displaying great administrative skills, and combining them with a long-term vision, he built many institutions in the State. He should be regarded and remembered as a great institution-builder, Mr. Kanda said.

He was speaking at the first PVRK Prasad memorial lecture, organised by Centre for Policy Studies and Bhagavatula Charitable Trust (BCT), at Visakhapatnam Public Library.

Founder of the BCT B.V Parameswara Rao in his memorial lecture said he was first introduced to PVRK by the late Prime Minister, P.V Narasimha Rao, when the latter was the Chief Minister in the early seventies. “Since then, till his death he remained the driving force behind the BCT and a source of great inspiration,” he said.

He distinguished himself in all the postings, but as the executive officer of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams he was fondly remembered even today. As the chairman of the Visakhapatnam Port Trust, he galvanised the workforce and pushed the port into the forefront.

President of Centre for Policy Studies A. Prasanna Kumar said PVRK used to encourage organisations like the BCT as “they serve the people at the village-level in consonance with the philosophy of Gandhiji.”
